To get the best out of the area, we recommend joining one of our guided walking trips. We take people to see the highlights of the local area, places that are not always easy to find by yourself. We follow many of the old footpaths in the mountains, which are no longer marked but good to walk on. Some of the walks also head off the beaten path without following footpaths. In this way, we think you’ll get to know the local area, animal life, geography & local history (and maybe even meet the wild reindeer). Our friendly and well-informed guides as well as guests from different European countries make this an unforgettable experience.
We have a varied weekly programme during the
summer season. Starting on the 16th June and finishing at the end of
August. New for 2014 are special “themed weeks” and some we call
"Out in the unknown".
Walking on your own:
We have a lot of tour proposals for our light and
varied terrain, for up to 18 km. On every morning you have the
chance to take the bus towards the mountains, walking back to the
hotel on on of the paths.
Venabu has its own stable with 15-25 horses and ponies in the summer months. Venabustallen can offer horse back riding for all levels and ages. We arrange longer and shorter trips, riding instruction for beginners, and small rounds for children. We also arrange riding weekends and riding holidays for those who are interested in riding several days. These weekends and holidays allow you to see more of the area and get in better contact with your horse. We ride in different terrain, and get to see the view from high mountains, waterfalls and canyons. On some of our trips we ride into the wild reindeer's territory.
Venabu Yoga - Yoga in soothing and expanding surroundings
Venabu organizes yoga classes throughout the whole summer; you can enjoy our weekends with Venabu Yoga, or join a session with soft yoga in the morning. Detailed information.
Courses in digital photographing several times a year.
Many creeks and lakes with trout (some few waters also have other fish) next to the hotel and on the plateau Venabygdsfjellet. You have to bring own gear and make sure it is clean. You can buy license for angling in different shops locally.
If you are going for big trout, the river Lågen in the valley Gudbrandsdalen is the place. Here there are many different kinds of fish.
Stable canoes for hire at the hotel, and a pretty little lake close by. Excellent for children/families.
The hotel has some few bikes for hire, and you can find some quiet private gravel roads to avoid traffic.
Small shop at the hotel, and two local shops 1-2kms from the hotel with souvenirs, clothes etc. 18 kms away in Ringebu you will find different kind of craft, silver smith, ceramics, clothes, books, a very good butcher Anni and a local baker Hansen.
Approx 1 hour's drive to Lillehammer, with the very special pedestrian street filled with old houses and shops as well as the super market at Strandtorget next to E6.
The tough ones swim in the mountain lakes. If it is a warm summer, it can be rather warm water, too. Otherwise we recommend the swimming pool at our neighbour, 3kms away, also children's pool and jacuzzi or the big in- and outdoor pool at Jorekstad, close to Lillehammer.
