Children at Venabu Fjellhotell
At Venabu we have special "activity weeks" for
children. These take place during the winter half-term school
holidays and, to a lesser extent, at Easter. The winter holidays
vary from country to country and from year to year so check with us
if they coincide with your children's holiday.
Normally, we have two activity leaders providing activities most
mornings and afternoons. If the weather is suitable they'll be
outside skiing, sledging or taking part in one of the other
activities. Adults with young children (under 5) are encouraged to
come along at least for the first couple of days to ensure their
child settles in. As I mentioned in the other pages, don't expect to
leave your child all day, every day. Part of the fun of skiing is
going out as a family and watching your child's progress.
Activities can include snow hole digging, igloo building, short ski
trips, sausage grilling, sledging (complete with competitions) and
much more. We also have our own stable and several "horsy" things
are also available (some at extra cost). We have riding & sleigh
trips as well as plenty of time to brush and "muck out" in the
stable. We also have a birthday party and the children spend time
decorating the stable. If the weather's not cooperative then we
arrange games inside. Of course, the level of activities depends on
the number of participants but during the last few years we've had
plenty of children and a high level of activity.
We have hire skis for all ages (from shoe size 25 upwards) but
please send details to us in advance. That way we can ensure there's
enough for everybody.
We also have three pulks for hire - please let us know in advance if
you wish to reserve one.
The Norwegian Ski Association has a scheme whereby children can work
towards distance awards. They are designed for the amount of
distance skied during a season but many children manage to attain
some of the lower awards within the space of a week. The distance
required depends on age, and award levels start at "Iron", going
through Bronze and Silver on the way to Gold. We have full details
of the scheme and can sell badges at the end of your stay.
