Snow shoeing:
Rent a pair of snow shoes in the ski stall and try this old
fashioned way to transport yourself in deep and loose snow. It
is a wonderful feeling to be in unspoiled nature, and when using
snow shoes, you get away from the trails and you easily find traces
of different animals. Also excellent when you want to take
pictures! If you are a beginner on skis, it may be nice to
have a change and use some other muscles!
"Spark"
- a strange looking sled where you stand behind and push with one
foot and have the other foot placed on a thin metal edge and hold on
to a handle. You may even have a passenger in front, relaxing
while you struggle and push! This is a traditional way of
getting somewhere, require a hard and icy road to be optimal.
It is also nice if you have problems with your balance, and like
to have something steady when you are out walking on a snowy road.
Ask at the reception.
Snow walking
- there is one nice place to walk away from the road, and
that is where we normally go with horse and sleigh. This
"path" is hard packed and you need no skis. A peaceful walk in
the winter forest.
Ice fishing
In February/March the local people start ice fishing at lake
Flaksjøen, digging holes in the ice and waiting patiently to get a
bite.
Sightseeing
Crossing the mountain by car and go along the national tourist
road Rondane, route 27 from Enden to Folldal. The most
beautiful stretch is half an hour's drive from Venabu, with a
splendid view to the Rondane mountains from a different angle.
Shopping:
Small shopping for souvenirs and normal mountain equipment can be
done locally, and our next neighbour, the Kiwi shop also have some
nice clothes - 1 km away. The village Ringebu 18 kms away,
offers a local silversmith, local ceramics, Norwegian knitwear and
textiles, an extremely good butcher, a very good baker, book store
combined with typical Norwegian cutlery in silver and traditional
silver work. The nearest town is Lillehammer with many shops
in the pedestrian street and a supermarket, as well as museums and
art exhibitions. |
