Venabu is easily accessible from both Oslo and Trondheim.

by train (and bus)

within Norway

Travelling by train to get to Ringebu (the closest station to Venabu) is straightforward, and rail services in Norway are excellent. Book ahead, and we will pick you up from the railway station in Ringebu; please see below. The transfer time to the hotel from the station is about twenty minutes.

Oslo Gardermoen Airport (Lufthavn) ‘s railway station is in the same building as the airport. The station staff speaks excellent English, and everything is well-signposted.

Booking ahead—Once you know your flights and you have decided to travel by train or bus, it makes sense to book your journey. Trains can become booked up—everyone has a seat, no standing. Booking ahead may also give you the option of a reduced-price ticket, the “mini pris” ticket, though this is non-refundable. The Vy.no website is easy to use and has an English version.

There are additional service options, combining bus and train, that fill in some of the gaps in the Vy timetable, these are shown on Vy.no but must be booked on Entur. The Entur website also has an English language version.

Take the train to Ringebu on the Dovre railway line. It’s a scenic journey from Oslo Gardermoen that takes about two and a half hours. Oslo city centre and Lillehammer are on the same rail line.

You can also travel to Venabu by train from the UK and continental Europe, see our blog post for more information.

Alternatives to flying

It is possible to travel to Venabu, without flying, from Europe and the UK. More of our guests are now choosing to travel in this way. We have just published a blog article with information and links on rail travel to Venabu.

by car

From Oslo:
Follow E6 to Frya, 5km north of Ringebu centre, then road 27 signposted Venabygd/Folldal ca 16km.

From Trondheim:
E6 to Hjerkinn, road 29 to Folldal, then road 27 to Venabu, Norwegian Scenic Route, Rondane.

Please note road 27 is a mountain road and can be closed (beyond Venabu, for most of our visitors) at short notice during the winter if there is bad weather. This road closure doesn’t routinely affect the road up from Ringebu. Road 27 is closed at night during the winter, east of Venabu between Spidsbergseter and Enden.

From Røros:
Road 30 to Tynset, then road 3 to Alvdal, road 29 to Folldal & road 27 to Venabu (Ringebu).

From Elverum:
Road 3 to Koppang, then road 219 to Enden & road 27 to Venabu (Ringebu). From Elverum it is the same distance if you drive the main E6 road.
