Cross country skiing holiday in Eastern Norway

Design your own package “skiing à la carte”.

Venabu has a good reputation for  cross country skiing holidays. Our new “a la carte” approach means you can create your ideal holiday. Choose your dates, your preferred style of accommodation: hotel or cabin stay, and add any other elements of your holiday – our secure, online booking system will guide you through the process.

Find out what you can include in your cross country ski holiday.

If you are a solo traveller you know that you’ll be joining like-minded adventurers and, at the same time, you can create a holiday that suits you. If you are travelling with friends, then our “skiing à la carte” approach means everyone can tailor their holiday as they wish.

Guided cross country ski tours

Discover the beautiful cross country skiing area around Venabu on our guided tours. This area of Venabygdsfjellet has so much to offer: vast open spaces with distant views, sheltered forest, friendly gradients and more challenging hills (for those who enjoy them). You will be skiing amongst the mountains, on a plateau away from the valley. Our experienced ski guides know all the best ski tours, so you can just have fun and enjoy your holiday. This holiday includes guided ski tours in the morning, on five days, read more about the programme below. The afternoons are free for you to explore independently, try your hand at dogsledding, take a romantic horse drawn sleigh ride or simply relax.

Beginners are welcome

We teach a lesson for beginners on the first morning. Guests new to cross country skiing build good foundations right from the start. We find that guests who are alpine skiers also benefit from getting the right start on their cross country skis. You may also be interested in our Learn Cross Country Skiing week which is a holiday-style cross country ski course.

For our new skiers, on the second morning there is a recap of skills before heading out on a tour. That afternoon we also offer a lesson on descent skills for cross country skiing. These are important skills for building confidence on your skis. After these introductory sessions you can put your new skills into practice on our guided tours.

Off track day tours

Experienced skiers can now add individual off track day tours to their Classic holiday in certain weeks. As the days get longer we can ski further afield and into more remote terrain. Many guests would like to join our off track tours without wanting to commit to a full five days of tours. We offer two weeks in the season when off track day tours will be available. We plan for these to be on Monday, Wednesday and Friday during those weeks, though this may change with the conditions. Please let us know when you book if you would like to join these tours.

On holiday with skiers of different ability? We have the answer!

Groups of friends, or families, with skiers at different levels can all enjoy this holiday. Our tours are graded to suit our guests’ skill, fitness and energy levels, with a number of tours going out each day. This means that you can ski with a group that suits your level.

Thank you all for a most wonderful week of skiing!”

Everything was fabulous. We will be back for sure!”

Our blog articles on cross counry skiing have useful information to help you to prepare for you holiday.

More about this holiday:

On this holiday we use the classic style of cross country skiing. The tours start after breakfast and bring you back in time for lunch (about 1.30pm). In the afternoons you are free to explore the area by yourselves, to have a private ski lesson or simply relax!

There is ski guiding on five days of the week. Mid-week we offer a change of pace: an opportunity to venture into the snow-covered forest, away from the tracks, on a guided snowshoe tour. From experience we find that guests often enjoy this change mid-week, returning to their skis with added energy and enthusiasm. Some guests prefer to ski every day, so the snowshoe tour isn’t included in the package and can be added when you book or during your stay.

This is a beautiful, rolling mountain area and we like to offer some off track skiing, that is away from the prepared tracks. This means you can experience this stunning winter wilderness, in a safe and accessible way. We think this is one of the features that makes this Venabu cross country skiing holiday special.

The weeks run Saturday to Saturday.

Our booking system will guide you through the process (and we are also here to help).
