Traditional Norwegian log cabins

Enjoy your mountain holiday in Norway in one of Venabu’s comfortable, high quality cabins: traditional in style with up to date facilities. Venabu has eight traditional Norwegian log cabins or ‘hytte’. We have cabins of different sizes to suit solo travellers, couples, families and groups of friends. For larger groups we have adjacent cabins that can be booked together. Our cabins are available all year round.

Each cabin is furnished in a traditional Norwegian mountain style and all our cabins have a turf roof. The cabins are situated on a low ridge, in a quiet, wooded location close to Venabu Fjellhotell. The cabins are thoughtfully designed and positioned to give great views and privacy to our guests. We believe our cabins offer guests the ‘best of both worlds’: you have your own space and access to the hotel’s facilities and services, should you choose. The cabins have extensive lake and mountain views. In the winter there is easy access to the cross country ski tracks. Our cabins are ski in/ski out.

"Welcome to Venabu"

“We would like our guest to feel welcome at Venabu, where the Tvete family has a long history and tradition of hospitality, together with its friendly staff. We know guests at the hotel often feel like the staff are their friends and extended family. They feel at home while staying at the hotel. We hope that our guests at the cabins will feel the same way - being a part of the whole Venabu ‘kind and thoughtful family’”.

Venabu style and facilities

Each cabin is furnished to a high standard and has all you need for your stay. The cabins’ traditional style of décor, colours and textiles create a cosy, welcoming atmosphere. There are woodcarvings and even the occasional troll. Every cabin has a fireplace or wood burning stove.

All cabins have underfloor heating and three of the cabins have their own sauna.

The bedrooms are fitted with light-excluding curtains. During the summer we don’t see the midnight sun but at midsummer it never truly gets dark.

The kitchens are well equipped, and all electricity and wood are included. Each cabin has cable TV, wifi and DAB radio. The cable TV has Norwegian and international channels.

Each cabin has outdoor furniture. Well-behaved dogs are welcome at three of the cabins.

Venabu cabins: your space with the benefits of Venabu Fjellhotell nearby

The cabins were built between 1988 and 2007. The Tvete family aim to offer the informal style of a cabin holiday with all the advantages of the hotel nearby. Venabu Fjellhotell is a couple of minutes’ walk away.

Cabin guests have access to the hotel reception for information and easy check in and out. Guests are welcome to join us for meals in the hotel dining room, for à la carte meals and for snacks. Every Wednesday, during the main holiday seasons, the hotel serves its special dinner: ‘A Taste of Norwegian Tradition’. This served dinner currently replaces Venabu’s renowned ‘Norwegian Buffet’.

As a cabin guest you are welcome to use the hotel saunas, have a massage, take a yoga class or join the guided activities, holidays and courses.

During the summer Venabu has an active programme of hiking and walking holidays, yoga courses and Wild Mindfulness breaks. There is a photography workshop with Venabu’s good friend and professional photographer Olav Storm.

Venabustallen, Venabu’s stables, run popular horse riding holidays and lessons throughout the summer and into the autumn.

The swimming lake with its beach is five minutes’ walk away. The hotel offers family mountain bike and canoe rental.

Autumn

As the colours and season changes into autumn, we host our Autumn hiking experience holiday and then, as the nights shorten and winter approaches, we celebrate with Viltaften and Julebord weekends.

Winter

For an active winter holiday this excellent cross country ski area has a network of over 140 kms of tracks to suit all levels of skier from beginners to expert. The snow record here is very good and the cross country ski season extends from December until after Easter. Venabu offers cross country ski hire and servicing. Venabu’s Skistall also sells wax and cross country ski accessories. At the end of the ski season the famous Trollski marathon starts at Venabu.

Venabu itself offers a variety of cross country ski holidays, ski lessons and coaching,  cross country ski courses and also snowshoe tours. There are dogsled tours and horse drawn sleigh rides. You can add any or all of these to your Norwegian winter cabin holiday.

Christmas and New Year are a special time of year. At Venabu we celebrate a traditional Norwegian family Christmas. The New Year is welcomed in style. Cabin guests are welcome to join in with the festivities.

Be active and relax

The Tvete family invite you to “spend your days outdoors then put your feet up and relax in front of the fire”.

The opportunity to explore for yourself or to join in guided activities, to relax and absorb the stillness or to have an active mountain holiday, make Venabu Cabins a great location for your Norwegian cabin holiday, whatever time of year.
