No fly travel to Venabu and Norway
Rail travel to Norway from the UK and Europe
More of our guests are choosing this travel option, so we have gathered some helpful information and links.
London to Oslo in two days
You can travel from London to Oslo in two days and then on to Venabu on Day 3. Of course, there are a number of route choices, if you would like to see more of the countries or cities that you travel through.
The most direct route is London—Oslo—Venabu by rail, with overnight stays in Hamburg and Oslo. You arrive at Oslo Central Station late on Day 2 from London. The journey from Oslo to Venabu takes just over three and a half hours so you could be skiing or hiking on the afternoon of Day 3.
The website Seat61 has detailed, useful information on rail routes, prices, and booking links. It offers different route options and step-by-step guides to help you plan your journey to Venabu from the UK or continental Europe. At first glance, the Seat61 page can look a little overwhelming, but after some reading, the detailed information is invaluable. There you will also find information on making ferry crossings part of the journey, such as the Colourline ferry from northern Germany to Oslo – billed as a mini-cruise.
Onward travel to Venabu
Travel from Oslo central station to Ringebu, the closest station to Venabu (twenty minutes by hotel minibus, please book in advance), is straightforward with details and links on our Travel page.
Consider an Interrail pass, you may be eligible for a discount
An Interrail Global Pass, such as the 7-day travel in a month or 10-day travel in two months, maybe a good option. Interrail offers a 10% discount for travellers who are 60 years or over on the first day of travel. Travellers who are 27 years and under can enjoy up to 25% off pass prices. There are family discounts too.
More details about Interrail passes can be found on Seat61. In addition to the pass price, you pay for seat reservations with the individual rail companies. If you choose an Interrail pass, Seat61 also suggests that you check Eurostar availability before buying your pass. All the information is on the Seat61 page.
Seat61 also highlights Eurostar’s dynamic pricing for pass holders, so early booking is a good idea.
The Interrail pass can be used for one day of travel outbound from the UK and one day within the UK on your return. So, an Interrail pass, currently £246 for seven days of travel in one month, maybe a good option, especially if you are eligible for a discount.
Once you arrive at Ringebu, the closest station to Venabu, our driver will meet you and take you to the hotel by minibus (20-minute journey). Remember to book this transfer in advance.
Rail travel tips
The UK to North Norway rail travel blog by our friends at Off Piste Performance has tips about rail travel from the UK to Norway (albeit their destination is much further north, and at Venabu, you are unlikely to need an ice axe!). They mention Black Friday sales on Interrail passes, worth looking out for.
For guests who do not live in Europe/the UK, there is the Eurail pass.
You can also find timetable information and book rail travel at the Trainline.
We look forward to seeing you at Venabu soon!
