Wednesday’s food event
We are delighted to welcome you to our mountain restaurant. Our restaurant has superb views, and you will find a relaxed, convivial atmosphere.
Venabu has a well-earned reputation for delicious, homemade food. Norwegian cuisine traditionally favours meat and fish. As a mountain hotel, we like to share Norwegian food traditions and culture. Our chefs use this inspiration to create delicious, homemade meals with a modern twist. You will find local ingredients and dishes on our menu,. We serve generous buffets at breakfast and lunch, and a three-course evening meal. You can read about our food philosophy here.
Vegetarians are well served. We have a seasonal vegetarian evening menu and vegetarian dishes at every meal. We can also prepare a full vegan menu. Please let us know if you would like the vegetarian or vegan menu when you book.
We are happy to accommodate special dietary requirements; please let us know when you book.
Our cabin guests and non-residents are welcome.
We offer à la carte bar meals, coffees, drinks, and cakes outside our main meal times.

wednesday’s special menu
‘A Taste of Norwegian Tradition’
Every Wednesday evening, during the main holiday seasons, we serve our special menu: ‘A Taste of Norwegian Tradition’.
This dining experience is more than just interesting dishes and delicious flavours. It is about sharing an experience with others and trying something new.
Your host introduces each dish, including the ingredients and how it is prepared. Several dishes are very local, originally from Venabygdsfjellet and Gudbrandsdalen. These are all ‘house-made’ in Venabu’s kitchen.
Menu:
starter:
A plate of Venabu’s specialties. Fish and meats, prepared in traditional ways, presented in small portions with carefully selected accompaniments.
main course:
Tender reindeer rump steak with seasonal accompaniments and a creamy sauce.
dessert:
“Cloudberry Surprise” Cloudberries in whipped cream, served in a homemade biscuit basket.

Price
630,- per adult.
315,- per child 5–14 years.
Free for children 4 years and younger.

“The meal of my life”
“What can I say the food is fantastic (on the Viltaften menu). All the dishes, Rakkfisk, the cured fish, the smoked and cured reindeer, the lingonberry cream and much more. Strongly recommended, if you miss it you will regret it. The meal of my life”

Julebord
In December, we offer a special pre-Christmas or “Julebord” weekend with a “Rakfisklag” dinner on the Friday evening and a 5-course “pre-Christmas” dinner on Saturday.
The Rakfisklag dinner is an opportunity to taste several different varieties of rakfisk. These are served with traditional accompaniments and some newer, perhaps less known, garnishes.
Our 5-course pre-Christmas, Julebord, dinner includes Christmas starters and the traditional Norwegian Christmas dishes of pinnekjøtt (chops) and ribbetallerken (ribs). This is all followed by a Christmas dessert.

Lunch at the summer farm
Our summer farm, Lykkjesetra, is located in the pastoral setting of Jønnhalt. Every week during the summer, the budeia, or ‘farm girl’, invites you to a traditional farm lunch or seterlunsj.
We serve sour cream porridge and sour cream waffles, prepared on a wood burning stove. These are accompanied, in the traditional way, by cured meats and local berries. The budeia tells stories of life on the summer farm in Gudbrandsdalen. Hear how Norway’s famous brown cheese originated!

Autumn game dinner
This is our autumn twelve-course game night, an autumn food event known to Norwegians as “Viltaften”. It is an evening of exciting flavours from the mountains and forest, with ‘rest dishes’ and desserts. The offer includes a choice of drinks. Choose between our wine, beer or non-alcoholic drinks packages.
An evening to enjoy good food, good drink and excellent company!
