Hiking holidays packing list

Clothing and equipment:

• Rucsac 25-30 l. – a rucsac cover can be very useful.
• Small thermos flask 0.5 -0.75l.
• Lunch box for your packed lunch.
• Water Bottle – minimum 1.5 litres or a hydration system eg camelbak of a similar size.
• Walking trousers – synthetic fabric, not jeans and cotton is best avoided.
• Walking boots with a good sole and ankle support, or trekking shoes, if that is what you are used to. Please bear in mind that the terrain here can be very rocky, depending on your tour. The vegetation here can also be quite hard on footwear so we recommend leather rather than fabric boots or shoes. There are also some damp/wet areas where we will be walking so it’s worth considering this in your choice of footwear.
• Waterproof breathable jacket – essential
• Waterproof overtrousers
• A spare warm jacket to put on at lunch time and stops is useful, synthetic is better in the summer. Modern synthetic ‘duvet’ jackets are light and pack down well, when down gets wet it doesn’t insulate.
• Base layers – thermal or wicking type underclothing, not cotton.
• Walking socks
• Waterproof overtrousers
• Mid layers eg fleece or wool tops
• Hat and Gloves
• Sunglasses, sunscreen (high factor at least 30 recommended) and lip protection
• Travel documents including insurance documents
• Personal medication
• Blister plaster eg Compeed
• Insect repellent – for example ‘Smidge’. It may be useful to have some with you.
• Dry bags or rucsac liner to keep your things dry if it rains.

Optional extras:

• Buff
• Walking poles
• Headtorch
• Favourite snacks – you can also make a mid-morning snack at breakfast
• Swimsuit if you choose to wear one in the sauna or would like to swim in the lake.
• Shorts
• Travel plug adapter suitable for Norway
• Camera/books/music

During the summer in Norway it is light for almost 24 hours a day. An eye mask can be very helpful if this is likely to disturb your sleep.

Hairdryers for guests’ use are available in a small cupboard in each corridor. Please return them after use.
